Charlie Parker - Bird in Kansas City (LP)
CHARLIE PARKER – KANSAS CITY BIRD
Charlie Parker had a difficult relationship with his hometown of Kansas City, due to both the strict segregation laws on the one hand and the relationships he had with the friends and family he had there on the other.
These recordings were partly made between 1941 and 1951 at the homes of these friends, and have always remained privately owned, so no one knew of their existence. Parker sounds very relaxed on the recordings and he is given the space to improvise and here he slowly develops the jazz as it would look in the years to come. Superlatives are quick to do such a release short, but still: Spec-ta-cu-lair.
