Bolis Pupul has had a year full of highlights. After the success of 'Topical Dancer' with Charlotte Adigéry, the Belgian toured all over the world. His solo album 'Letter To Yu' has just been announced for early 2024. That year also starts on a high.
Yet it is not all roses and moonshine in Pupul's life. When Bolis' Chinese mother died in a traffic accident in 2006, it marked a turning point in his life and also aroused great curiosity about his Chinese roots. He traveled to Yu Wei Wun, his mother's hometown, in 2018. Here he wrote a letter describing his experiences. Only much later, when the album was already starting to take shape, did he remember this letter. "It became the centerpiece of the album," Pupul says. 'Letter To Yu' will be released on Soulwax' DEEWEE and Soulwax also helped with the production. It says something about the sound, which is both danceable and urgent.
