Ata Kak - Obaa sima (anniversary edition)
Obaa Sima 's story is almost as iconic as the music itself. Originally released in 1994 on a limited edition cassette in Ghana by Yaw Atta-Owusu, better known as Ata Kak, the album disappeared completely. Years later, a copy was rediscovered by American musicologist Brian Shimkovitz, founder of Awesome Tapes From Africa . After a search for the artist, the album was officially reissued and became a global cult classic.
Ata Kak's music is an energetic, infectious blend of Ghanaian highlife, early Twi-rap, funk, and lo-fi electronic dance. Driven by rudimentary drum machines and synthesizers, it sounds raw, joyful, and unconventional. Obaa Sima is often hailed as a visionary in "outsider" house music, decades ahead of his time.
