Steven Wilson is doing his best to dominate the week, but beneath all his abundance there is more to be found.
Album of the Week
A new Steven Wilson album is always good news for prog fans, especially now that The Overview is proving to be Wilson's most proggy album in years. The electronic experimentation of The Future Bites and The Harmony Codex gives way to two movements, each around twenty minutes long. A thundering epic about space that would be a huge leap into the unknown for most musicians—for Wilson, it's actually quite traditional. He can let loose from his comfort zone. He playfully satirizes, has his wife list planets and galaxies, and knows exactly when to pick the perfect moment for the guitar solo. The album isn't that long, but Wilson manages to unleash every instrument under the sun. CD / LP / Blu-ray

The sound of the turn of the century is back in full force in the pop world. It's high time the alternative hip-hop group Clipping. put their own spin on it. Dead Channel Sky begins with the nostalgic sound of a dial-up modem—you know, back when the internet was still a hopeful place—and gradually becomes more dystopian. Industrial drum & bass and glitchy house beats color the whole thing. CD / LP |

Everything Under Control ? Not at all. On the latest album from Antwerp urban troubadour Tourist LeMC, he's more like a disaster tourist. He's gasping for breath in a city that's visibly changing. Meanwhile, he explores new musical horizons: we hear sultry Latin, stimulating electronics, and satin jazz. This tourist is confused, yet knows exactly what he's doing. CD / LP |

Dutch boy bands (or should we call them male groups?) have been on the rise lately, but we haven't had a Dutch answer to The 1975 yet. Hiigo is a contender with "Leven in de Leegte" (Life in the Empty ) – which, with its polished melancholy, also recalls Van Dik Hout. Does that go together? Of course. A gentle enrichment of Dutch pop. CD / LP |

Wilco fans have known for twenty years that Nels Cline is an incomparable guitarist. But on the debut album from Cline's Consentrik Quartet , we also get to know him as a composer and bandleader. It's a jazz album more than worthy of the Blue Note label. The chemistry between the players is palpable, as is their love for Miles Davis and the New York jazz scene circa '73. And what a drummer!
